The journey home! πŸš™

Good morning from Tucson!

Alan is working the day here before we head out to El Paso!

So the girls and I hit the mall and saw a movie it was perfect!

Day 2 heading home! Good morning from El Paso!

Today we have a long day of driving to the Papp’s house!

It was actually a very uneventful drive which was fantastic! We loved the 80mph speed limit and the drive actually passed quickly! The best part was we found a Taco Casa just west of San Antonio!!

We spent three days at the Papp’s house in San Antonio. We relaxed, played with the farm animals, made earrings, played video games and had a great visit! It was the perfect end to our non stop vacation!

We left the Papp’s with two days drive ahead of us before we made it home!

We stopped at the busiest Bucee’s we’ve ever been too and then had a delicious lunch at Taco Casa in Houston. It was the perfect send off from Texas!

We spent the night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Last Day!!!

Good morning from Baton Rouge!!! Today we make the final leg of our trip home.

First a stop off to see my brother!

Then Alan decided the girls needed to drive! Can’t believe our girls are old enough to drive on a family trip!

Then finally we crossed into home!

Welcome to Georgia! It feels so good to be home! We still have a few hours to home but it’s good to be home in Georgia!!

Home Sweet Home!

What an amazing vacation, one I will never forget!

San Diego Zoo πŸ»πŸ¦’πŸ¦›πŸ¦πŸ¦πŸ«

Good morning from the San Diego Zoo!

Alan really wanted to visit this zoo so we made a day of it! It is known for it’s cageless exhibits and over 3500 different types of animals!

We went straight to the koalas because I had read they were super active in the morning and we were not disappointed! They were moving all over, one even ran on the ground…they hop almost like rabbits!

Right across from the koalas were the giraffes! They were so close it was so cool!!!

The zoo was absolutely massive!

We saw 5 kinds of bears, giraffes, pygmy hippos, gorillas, monkeys, birds, camels, lions, tigers, leopards…just to name a few!

We had lunch by the gorillas and then covered the rest of the zoo!

Before we left we rode the double decker bus tour around the zoo then we rode the sky tram!

Alan’s favorite animal! The komodo dragon!

Above the zoo and we could see downtown San Diego!

After we finished the zoo, it officially ended our trip. We began our long drive home by heading East! We headed out of town and the sun was setting behind us! Off to Tucson!

It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal!

San Diego – Day 1 πŸ¦πŸβ˜€οΈπŸŒŠ

Our last California Destination is San Diego! Alan has wanted to come here for awhile but we have never made it, until now. Good morning from San Diego!

Our first stop was Pipe’s Cafe for breakfast at the beach! It was so good!!! Giant burritos and tons of food, with iced coffee for me and Ry!

We switched roles in San Diego and Alan navigated while I drove! He had set out a course for the day so we set off down the coast to our first stop!

Torrey Pines State Reserve

Our friends had told us about this place where we could hike out to the cliffs and to the beach! It was awesome! We hiked a few miles and loved it!

It was a very cool place!

Next up was La Jolla cove! We had heard that there might be the lost Sea Lions of San Francisco there!

And there was!!!!! There were sea lions everywhere. We could hear them as we were driving in! This is where the sea lions of San Francisco come to have their pups and breed in the summer.

The girls had so much fun running along the beach taking thousands of pics and videos of these sea lions! I really enjoyed it too!!

Then Alan found a super fancy Italian restaurant on a rooftop we enjoyed! It was so cool!

We had prosciutto and pesto and homemade pasta and amazing pizza!!! It was a fabulous find by Alan that takes two week in advance reservations for dinner, but we got in for lunch!!!

We spent more time in La Jolla after lunch souvenir shopping and just watching the sea lions make so much noise! We were there during their 15 day mating period so they were very vocal! Especially the bachelors in the water that didn’t have any girlfriends!

Onto another destination! We were headed to mission beach where everyone said was a great place for families…they were right there were tons of families, so many we couldn’t even park so we found another spot, Ocean Beach!

It was pretty overcast and chilly but we enjoyed walking the beach and pier and watching the surfers.

Next stop…sunset cliffs!

We had planned to get here early to watch an amazing sunset. We got a spot right on the edge of the cliffs and hung out. We saw two weddings and two proposals while we sat!

We played uno while we waited for the sun to set.

Then more clouds rolled in…and more…and more…and then sunset happened and nothing changed except it was colder! 🀣

That’s ok, not much could spoil this day! It had been perfect!

We had two stops left!!! First up was Tacos El Gordo! Our friends had told us about it and said we had to try their carnitas!

So we headed more south, 7 miles from the Mexican border!

We ordered from a menu we couldn’t read and Bree was worried she was gonna get food poisoning! But we didnt it was all pretty yummy!

Alan got tacos de Adobada, I got an asada vampiro, Ry went with Asada quesadilla and Bree just got asada on a corn tortilla!

It did not disappoint! We hit the jackpot on our meals today!!

Last stop of the night was Coronado! I just love the hotel and it was so beautifully lit up along with the entire San Diego Harbor!

Happiness comes in waves, seas the day!

A few days with Wowo!

We spent a few more days at Wowo’s, we ate, we shopped, and we played! Then we headed south!

We went to the Santa Barbara zoo!

Had lunch on the water!

Dinner at one of our favorites! This is what we had for our rehearsal dinner!

Did some geocaching!

Definitely had some in n out!

Visited my old houses!

Then we said our goodbyes! I love them so much…probably be Ry’s graduation before we see them again! I don’t have any real Aunt and Uncles, but the ones my parents chose for me are the best in the world! My heart hurts to leave them!

We headed south after our goodbyes and headed to Huntington Beach and to visit an old friend of mine. I think it has been 20 years since we have seen each other but it was as if it had been one day! We picked right back up!

Family and friends are hidden treasures, seek them and enjoy their riches!

Disneyland!! 🐭🎒

Good morning from Anaheim, CA!!

We took a day to recover and rest at Wowo’s, had dinner with my family and did a little shopping then it was time for Disney!!!

We woke up early and headed down to Anaheim for a full day at Disney!!!

We grabbed my little cousin Raegan too, he was so much fun! Alan is going to come down after he puts in a full days work east coast time! 😳 Dad of the year!

We decided to try and do the tactics of a Disneyland blogger I follow. Her first piece of advice was to arrive an hour before opening…we arrived an hour AFTER opening! 😬 oops!

Here we go!!

First up Tomorrowland! Star Tours, I don’t love this ride so I grabbed snacks, mickey shaped at that!

Then we were off to Buzz!!

The matterhorn was up next! This is my favorite ride, only at Disneyland!

We headed to Frontierland and big thunder mountain next, got ready to go and it broke down! So we got a fancy Genie pass for any other ride due to our inconvenience!

We headed to lunch next with about a million other people!

Then off to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The girls and Reagan were so excited! They walked all over until our Genie was ready for Millennium Falcon!

After they rode this Alan showed up! Just in time to ride Rise of the Resistance, the ride everyone is crazy about! Well, after they got off they were crazy about it! The best ride of the day!!

Off to New Orleans square and Pirates of the Caribbean! But first, Ice cream and definitely mickey shaped!!

We were able to use our special Genie pass from Big thunder and skip the line which was awesome because it doesn’t have a skip the line normally!

Next up we park hopped over to California Adventure!

I really wanted the girls to experience Incredicoaster!

Then it was off to the Avengers Campus!

They rode Spiderman’s Web-slinger, met Ant man, and saw the Guardians – Mission breakout!!

Then the kids and I found Doctor Strange’s wormhole! Next up dinner break!!

Ry and I decided we wanted a turkey leg and corn on the cob! The others had burgers and fries…but I forgot to take their pictures!

Where to next??? Goofy’s sky school!

The kids loved it!

After this we all headed back to Disneyland for the Main Street Electrical Parade!

We loved the parade! It was the 50th anniversary of this parade and we enjoyed it! Afterwards Raegan and Wowo were pretty tired so they headed home. We were ready to stay until midnight!

First up the girls and daddy raced back to guardians to get to ride it!

When they met me back at Disneyland we headed to watch Fantasmic in New Orleans square.

Then Alan and Bree rode Big Thunder finally!

Ry and I were pretty pooped!

After this we headed back to Adventureland and Tomorrowland to try and ride the things Daddy had missed!

Jungle Cruise

Star Tours

And Buzz! We did it!!

While they rode the last ride I grabbed my last mickey shaped treat!

I also had bought a sweatshirt that I loved and had a dream of the girls and I matching…I couldn’t shake it so Alan said, make it happen!

A wonderful day at the happiest place on earth!!

Just remember it all started with a mouse! -Walt Disney

Sequoia National Park 🌳🌲

Good morning from Madera, CA! We were able to find a hotel outside of Yosemite and have decided today to head over to Sequoia and see the Giant Sequoia trees!

It’s a bit of a drive but we are going!

We made it!!! The giant sequoias grow only on the Western side of the Sierra Nevadas in California between 4,000 and 8,000 ft in elevation. So once we entered the park we headed up, up, up!

The first glimpses we saw were actually all ash and burnt trees. There was a terrible fire here last year that burned so much. It was another sad sight, a lot of trails were closed because the fire had burned them up and they had not re built them yet.

Our first stop was the Big Trees trail. The girls were blown away by their absolute giantness!!

There were a few downed sequoias on this trail and this one in particular the kids and Alan decided to crawl through!

This park is closed to a lot of vehicle traffic on the weekends so we took the shuttle to a lot of places. After we finished the big tree trail we took the shuttle to Moro Rock.

Alan and I brought our families to Sequoia the week before our wedding. His Papa hiked Moro Rock, all the way to the top. So we wanted the girls to go there too! He passed away three weeks before Ryanna was born.

It’s 350 steps to the top and a lot of tiny passageways but we made it! You can see the tops of all the highest peaks of the Sierras here with the exception of Mt. Whitney, the tallest which is hidden from view.

After Moro Rock I wanted the girls to visit tunnel log, this is a sequoia that fell that is so big you can drive through it. The road is closed to vehicles so we decided to hike to it. Soldiers trail is across from Moro Rock so we jumped on and headed that way. It was a very ashy and burned trail from the fire but we enjoyed it. After awhile we crossed into a forest untouched by the fire.

It was a great hike but long and hot!! We made it though!

We were never more excited than when the shuttle bus stopped at tunnel log to pick up hikers!!

Next stop, General Sherman! He is the largest tree in volume, not the tallest or widest but combined he is the largest on Earth! It is just crazy to look at these trees from the ground! They are massive!!!

By the end of this day we were absolutely exhausted!! We have experienced so much in just two short weeks!

Yosemite National Park πŸ”πŸ”₯

Good morning from Fresno, California!

This morning we are headed into Yosemite! This is my favorite place on earth, and I am so excited to be here with all 4 of us!

I brought Alan here when we were dating and I brought the girls one year when I was traveling with my parents to visit my grandparents, but we have never all been together.

I had so much planned for this weekend in Yosemite but everything changed when we got to Fresno and saw the news of a wildfire in south Yosemite. It had started Thursday evening and they had to evacuate and close the south road leading into Yosemite. The road we had planned to take in.

The west entrance into the valley was still open so we decided to drive the extra hour and half and go that way.

The drive in gave us a great view of the smoke from the fire. It was sad to see but its a way of life out here, fire season is a thing. And as I write this over two weeks later that fire is still burning. πŸ”₯

Thankfully for us the fire was staying away from the valley so we could still visit and do everything on my list. The smoke however had filled the valley. We grabbed a picture by the sign and you could see and smell the smoke.

We joined the extremely long line of cars waiting to get into the park. We waited almost two hours to enter the park, but when we finally made it in it was worth every minute! I just love Yosemite!! 😍

Our first order of business was to get a family picture in my favorite spot, this spot happens to be on the road into the valley coming from the south. Thankfully we were still able to go up the road to my favorite spot, Inspiration point. I have dreamed of a picture of my family in this spot for many years. It might sound silly, but this place holds the majority of my childhood memories. We camped here every year as a kid, hiked with my parents, brought my friends and spent many a nights in a cabin here in the winter. I even rode on my dads shoulders as a little girl through this park or on my dads back in a backpack as a baby. So this, this is my place and I wanted a picture with the whole valley below, El Capitan (my favorite) to the left, bridalveil falls to the right, and Half Dome at center stage!

Well…not exactly what my dream looked like but I was here with my family and smoky or not I was getting this picture!!

You can’t see Half Dome at all and Bridalveil is pretty much non existent…but we are here and it is just the best feeling in the world…minus the smoke filling our lungs! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I love to drive out of this tunnel and see the valley, but since the road is closed Bree and I took advantage of no one coming through it!

We made a decision to not let the smoke ruin our day so we set out for our first order of business…we had to cancel our reservations in a tent cabin in the valley. The smoke was too much for us to be in a tent where Ry would inhale it every time she breathed.

This is where we would have stayed…but the Lord was looking out for us. They fully refunded it due to medical issues and they have been having squirrel problems in the tent, which Bree is terrified of, so we dodged that too!

Next up, the trail to Vernal falls! We left Curry Village and headed to Happy Isles on foot. They have closed a lot of the park to shuttle buses only so we decided to hoof it. This park is so beautiful it was nice to walk! We reached the trailhead and headed off, this trail is part of the John Muir trail, a trail which my dad has hiked in it’s entirety many times. He has told the girls many stories so they were excited to be on it. This trail to vernal falls I have hiked many times and I wanted the girls to see it…welp that didn’t happen. We made it up a few minutes then Ryanna needed her inhaler and Alan decided it wasn’t worth her having so many issues. So we snapped a few photos at the overlook and headed back down.

We decided after our venture to cool off in the Merced River, it was freezing!!! πŸ₯Ά Alan wanted no part in that!

After this we headed back to curry village, this time we caught the bus back! Once we got back to our car we headed over to the Awahnee for some ice cream and to show the girls the beautiful hotel!

Then we were off to the village for dinner and souvenir shopping.

While we ate we realized it didn’t seem to be as smoky as before. Sure enough the smoke was actually clearing the valley. We finished dinner with Bree panicking because a squirrel wouldn’t leave her alone. He kept running around her feet under the table! 🀣

Alan said we should try for inspiration point pictures again and I am so glad he did. It makes me tear up just thinking about them! It was so beautiful!

This is what my dreams were made of!! πŸ₯°

There are tons more pics we took but I won’t put them all here…just a few!

The most beautiful view…thank you Lord!

Here you can see the smoke just outside the valley, I don’t know if the Lord did this just for me, but I would like to think He did. The Lord knows the desires of my heart!

After a good long time at inspiration point we were chasing daylight so we headed off to see Yosemite Falls when we crossed this bridge and saw the most beautiful sight! Half Dome!!!

Off to the falls!!!

We reached Yosemite Falls as the sun was disappearing but we hiked to the lookout and still got a beautiful view!

The girls both climbed in the split rock on the way, one I have climbed in many times and I am sure I have a pic of them when we first came to Yosemite climbing in it!

Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls!

It was the most perfect day in Yosemite. As I write this I am thinking about every memory we made on this trip, but this day is my favorite!

A non smoky welcome pic on the way out!

Followed by my favorite sight in Yosemite…El Capitan

And Alan snapped this while driving of the meadow.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. -Gen. 1:1

Baseball, bags, and jewelry! βšΎοΈπŸ‘œπŸ’

When we reached the valley we stayed a few days with Wowo and Uncle Craig before we headed back out again! We relaxed and rested and did a few fun things!

We had Western bagel…my favorite type of bagel!

Then of course, a Dodger game! Ryanna has developed a love for the Dodgers which has made this mama so happy. So while in LA of course we had to go to a game!

She was so excited to have her jersey and her bag and her hat! She doesn’t show emotion often, but she was so so excited tonight! It was so fun to watch her be so excited!

We toured around the stadium and then settled in for a great game! It was pretty exciting especially as they were winning and couldn’t close out the game! At one point I thought we were headed to extra innings. Ryanna was stressed out! But in the end they pulled out the win!!

Best reason to be a Dodger fan is their dodger dog…it’s just a regular hot dog but it’s the best eaten at Dodger stadium!

It was such a fun night!

The next day Alan worked and us girls went to Newport for a fun day together!

No traffic or long lines was going to deter us! Our first stop was Stoney Clover a personalization bag company! We each picked what we wanted and left it to be personalized then got in line to get permanent jewelry!!

So much fun! This was an influencer I follow in town to do the jewelry so it was such a fun experience!! I got a ring and bracelet and so did Bree. Ry went with an anklet!

After finishing we got lunch and then picked up our bags!

It was the perfect mother/daughter day!!

We picked up Alan after we got back and we headed out for the weekend to Yosemite! On the way we stopped at the church where we got married 19 years ago!

A daughter is someone you laugh with, πŸ˜‚ dream with, and love with all your heart. πŸ’•

San Francisco!! 🌁

Good morning from San Francisco!

We woke up this morning and headed to a place for breakfast Alan had found close to our hotel. My dad reserved this hotel for us and it is right in downtown, it’s so cool!!!

Sammy’s Cafe was great, we got bagels and burritos!

Unfortunately Alan is back to work today, so we girls are on our own today to explore. The good thing is he is working on east coast time and is done by 2pm California time so he plans to meet us a little later.

He decided when we planned this trip he would try to work and play! I told him he didn’t have to because I know he will be exhausted but we’ll see how he does! Today is day 1!

In an effort to be out of the hotel where he is working, the girls and I set out walking around San Francisco. Everything was great when we left Sammy’s then we turned right headed to our first destination…straight up the hill!!!

Lombard Street was just within walking distance so we headed up the street!

At the top there was a cable car parked with Coit tower in the distance! It was a perfect picture!

We walked down Lombard which wasn’t nearly as exciting so we decided to ask Alan if we could drive down it after he picked us up!

We continued our walk down to the wharf where we planned for lunch and shopping. While we walked we spotted Alcatraz in the harbor!

When we reached the wharf we found a few stores then could smell our favorite!!

Boudin!!! The sourdough bread company!

We knew we having lunch here, but it wasn’t lunch time yet so we watched them make different breads in the window then took the bread factory tour before ordering our sourdough bread bowls with clam chowder and chili! It was the perfect lunch with my girls!!

After lunch we walked around the wharf and did some shopping and sightseeing. We also looked for the famous sea lions of San Francisco but instead of animals we found a sign saying they had migrated south to have their pups…little did we know they would show up later on our trip!

Alan’s done with work!!!

We had successfully survived our first day in a city while Alan worked!

We begged him to come get us because we were at the bottom of San Francisco by the water and he was up up up at least 20 blocks! So he came to get us! Then we asked him to take us down Lombard street. Then he turned north instead of south towards LA and said “We can’t come to San Francisco and not drive over the Golden Gate bridge!!” So off we went! It was beautiful and I am glad we went!

I just love us!!

Alan also made sure to get just our picture! 21 years ago I brought him to California for the first time and brought him to this exact same spot! The few times we’ve been back we have always gotten a picture of us! It’s crazy to think just twenty some years later here we are with our girls!

Love my man!!! 😘πŸ₯°

Off to Wowo’s???? Not yet!!!

The Full house house!!

Now to Wowo’s??? Nope! 🀣

He had to make one more stop!! My favorite place in San Francisco! I didn’t want to walk up to it so he drove me! Coit Tower…I’m not sure why it’s my favorite but for as long as I can remember it has been. My favorite sight to see when we go there!

Now to Wowo’s!!!

Well…almost, less than an hour down the road the old familiar ding of the tire pressure monitor came on! I could not believe it, same tire again!!!

Thankfully we were old hats at changing it and rearranging everything and once again God is faithful and supplied a tire shop that was 30 minutes from closing and agreed to patch the tire which just had a screw in it. Less than an hour later we were back on our way!!

I’m going home to my city by the Bay
I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care
My love waits there in San Francisco
Above the blue and windy sea
When I come home to you, San Francisco
Your golden sun will shine for me

Oregon to San Francisco 🌁

Today marks our longest day of driving on our trip so far. We woke up early in Portland to head out, but sometimes work calls so we got up early, then waited for Alan to be ready! 🀣

We basically got on the 5 freeway all the way to Sam Francisco so there isn’t much to document.

Lunch was definitely In n Out that we spotted from the freeway right before we left Oregon. Alan was sleeping so he missed the picture!

Second, Welcome to California!

It’a been 7 years since I’ve been “home” I was very happy to see those poppies!!

Shortly after we came over the border we entered the Shasta Valley and a small town called Weed. This is where my Grandpa is buried. I never knew him, he died very young but my dad has taken me here a few times and there was no way I could just drive by. So Alan helped me locate his tombstone.

There’s a little of him in all three of us! Thanks Grandpa for dad/Pappy he’s the best, you’d be so proud of him!

Next stop, San Francisco!

There is nothing like the fog of San Francisco, it sits over the bay and you can see it from miles away!

Once we got settled in our room we grabbed dinner downstairs and hit the hay! It was a long day of riding!!

It’s a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what’s changed is you. -Fitzgerald
